Environmentally friendly, asbestos-free brake pads are a friction material made with a resin matrix and other reinforcing fibers substituted for asbestos. They are characterized by:
1. High coefficient of friction, excellent mechanical strength, and minimal thermal fade.
2. Does not contain steel wool or high-abrasivity compounds, resulting in low hardness and minimizing the risk of damaging brake discs.
3. Asbestos-free, eco-friendly and green.
4. Low wear and long service life.

It turns out that the brake pads used in China were mostly made of asbestos materials, but asbestos brake pads have insurmountable drawbacks:
1. Due to asbestos's poor thermal conductivity, frictional heat dissipates slowly, leading to a thicker heat-degradation layer, accelerated wear, and environmental contamination—particularly, asbestos fiber dust can cause cancer in humans.
2. High-hardness abrasives and steel wool are used to enhance the coefficient of friction and improve heat dissipation performance.
3. After asbestos is completely dehydrated and decomposed at 650°C–700°C, its strength decreases.
4. Asbestos is prone to "thermal fade" in friction performance.
With growing environmental awareness and a heightened sense of self-protection among people, eco-friendly, asbestos-free brake pads will ultimately replace asbestos-based ones, promising broad prospects for widespread use.
